@Scott: I understand! Have you seen how those bullets look in the Apologetics Study Bible, though? They're not nearly as obtrusive.

@Robert: I've passed your question along. I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer.

Will,

Thanks for the update. In the last email I received from Dr. Blum he re-stated the publishers desire to retain those "pesky" black bullets imbedded in the text. Now, if they would just get rid of those as well, we would be one step closer to that (almost) perfect translation.

Blessings,

WF

Will, I know their position on the not using the term tongues places where it is used to describe a particular spiritual gift (i.e 1 Cor. 12-14), but can they at least reconsider rewording this one verse?

1 Corinthians 13:8b
Love never ends. ...; as for languages, they will cease;

Do the translators really believe that is the intended meaning, "languages will cease"? I am not all advocating the use of tongues but they need to clarify this verse, and translated better. It is just a really awkward reading, that seems to make no sense at all.

Other translations:
NLT: unknown languages ... will become useless
ESV: tongues, they will cease
TNIV: where there are tongues, they will be stilled
CEV: unknown languages will no longer be spoken
NET: if there are tongues, they will cease
