Updated HCSB Text in Print while Website to Get Its Own Updates

by Will on December 29, 2009 · 8 comments

The updated HCSB text is officially at press! We should see it in the Minister’s Bible in June of 2010. I think we’ll see some great tweaks to an already great translation.

Like I mentioned before, those brackets will be a thing of the past. That alone makes a new printing worth while.

In addition, we just might see some more footnotes (believe it or not). We love those footnotes.

While the text is getting its update, the HCSB website will be getting its own set of updates in the new year as well. They’ll be opening up comments on the blog and adding contact information as well.

Can’t wait to see all the new changes!

If it’s at press right now, I wonder why we wouldn’t see the Ministers Bible until June? I’m hoping for something earlier.

This year, I went back to my HCSB Minister’s Bible as my primary public use Bible. It will be sad to retire it having used it for two weddings, two funerals, and an unknown number of Bible studies and sermons. But I look forward to the new text ironing out the problems of the first printing and using it for at least the next decade or so.

As I understand it, Rick, there’s a lot that has to happen before the product can actually hit the shelves. We’ll see. Maybe they’ll surprise us with an earlier release!

I have pre-ordered the new Ministers Bible. Both Amazon and ChristianBooks (among others) are taking pre-orders now but stating that it won’t be available until June 2010. I’m with you Rick, I’m hoping for an earlier release date. I, too, have gone back to the MB as my pulpit Bible (I still get people telling me “I like that translation you’re using”) and I anticipate this updated version will be my “main squeeze” for many years to come.

Blessings,

I love it when people “correct” other translations (“A better way to say this,” or “A better translation is…”), and what they say is exactly what my HCSB has! It happens all the time.

Well, I was excited to see my own pastor having used it for this pas Sunday. The last TWO WORDS OF Romans 12:13 “; puruse hospitality”. He even took the time to explain WHY he used it, as neither the NKJV, nor his preferred NASU had the active voice of the Greek correct. They both rendered it as “practice, or, practicing” hospitality. My NET had the same rendering as the CSB.

In any case, I am rather put off by some of the renderings that have been previewed on the Christian Insights blog, particulary Ephesians 1, and the rearrangement of “In Him…”. However, I will agree that the sentences have been smoothed out.

I DO hope they get out something in Feb. as they have alluded to.

Thanks for the heads up, Will. June? Such a long wait… At any rate, I’m looking forward to the HCSB.

Is that a hint about your translation choice? ;)
