What Is RSS?
Wikipedia describes RSS like this:
RSS (most commonly translated as “Really Simple Syndication” but sometimes “Rich Site Summary”) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.
Essentially, this is how it works:
- You subscribe to an RSS feed using a feed reader
- You get updates automatically in your feed reader every time one of your subscriptions has new content
- You can then read blogs or news sites all from one place at your own convenience
How Do I Subscribe?
Subscribing is easy: on any site, just look for the orange RSS symbol. It looks like this:

What Software Do I Use?
If you use a Mac, I would recommend NetNewsWire because it’s free and super-easy to use.
If you use Windows, stop it! Okay, just kidding. I can recommend Google Reader for anyone on any operating system.
