What Is RSS?

Wikipedia describes RSS like this:

RSS (most commonly translated as “Really Simple Syndication” but sometimes “Rich Site Summary”) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.

Essentially, this is how it works:

  1. You subscribe to an RSS feed using a feed reader
  2. You get updates automatically in your feed reader every time one of your subscriptions has new content
  3. You can then read blogs or news sites all from one place at your own convenience

How Do I Subscribe?

Subscribing is easy: on any site, just look for the orange RSS symbol. It looks like this:

What Software Do I Use?

If you use a Mac, I would recommend NetNewsWire because it’s free and super-easy to use.

If you use Windows, stop it! Okay, just kidding. I can recommend Google Reader for anyone on any operating system.
